The 2011 Rally Mexican 1000.......

...is starting to move into high gear.I'm staying at the Hotel Colonial, one of the few times i've stayed in a Hotel or Motel in the year and a half i've been on the road on the bike. And the reason is twofold, first, there's no camping in the city of Mexicali, and second,it's not a good idea to camp out in a border town, border town, border troubles, yanno? And anyhoo,it's friggin hot, real hot, supposed to hit over 100° in La Paz in a few days.Mas Tecate...........

May 5th,Day numero uno. This is the official route map for the drivers, latest update.
These are the drivers maps included in the routebook each driver gets.....

Me,i've got my own map, edited by Ken Cameron,Rally Master and Chief Technical Officer of the event, and with my own scribble that I can unnerstan, comprende amigos?.There are certain places along the race route that have military checkpoints, people with machine guns......I was told to slow down, then stop and be nice to the men with the guns.Give 'em some NORRA stickers or sumpthin says Ken.

This was the scene last week, snow capped mountains on the other side of Wolf Creek pass on the way down to Mexicali, temps in the mid 20's.......

...meanwhile it's 101° right now here in Mexicali, bit of a difference.

As all the trucks and bikes come in tonight and early in tomorrow morning, more pictures and dispatches from the event will follow.
So stay tuned....

A big "Thank You" to John,Jeff and Brad for letting me guest post here today.

And as always people.......
